Control Room Furniture FAQ

  1. Is the millwork just for looks, or does it serve a functional purpose?

While our millwork enhances the visual consistency of your control room, it’s far more than just aesthetic. We design cabinetry and built-in units with operational functionality in mind, supporting storage, equipment access, and cable routing. Each piece is engineered for long-term durability in demanding environments.

  2. Can Tresco match the finishes of our control room consoles?

Yes. Our millwork is custom-fabricated to match the finishes and design language of your consoles, whether they’re part of an AEGIS, NEXUS, or VANGUARD setup. This ensures a seamless, unified look across your control room environment.

  3. What types of storage or cabinetry can be included?

We offer a wide range of options: fixed base cabinets, wall-mounted units, pull-out drawers, mobile pedestals, shelving, and even custom-built AV enclosures. If you have a specific workflow or storage requirement, we’ll design around it.

  4. Can the millwork include built-in electronics or technology?

Absolutely. We can integrate ventilation, power access, USB outlets, monitor mounts, and even embedded control panels or IT gear. Our team will work with your technical requirements to make sure the furniture supports both form and function.

  5. What if we’re not sure what millwork we need yet?

That’s common. Many clients finalize their millwork needs after their console layout is confirmed. We’re happy to review your floor plans and operational requirements to recommend solutions that enhance space utilization, operator workflow, and room flow.

  6. Does Tresco provide boardroom tables or furniture for meeting rooms?

Yes. We design and build custom boardroom tables, collaboration desks, and meeting room furniture that match the style and durability of your control room. These pieces can include integrated power, AV connectivity, and cable management, making them ideal for control centers that require frequent team briefings, supervisor workstations, or executive review spaces.

  7. How do 24/7 chairs differ from standard office chairs?

24/7 chairs are built for nonstop use in mission-critical environments. They use high-resilience foams, reinforced hardware, and robust adjustment systems to handle constant use without breakdown. They’re also designed with ergonomics in mind to reduce operator fatigue during long shifts.

  8. Can I test or see the furniture before purchasing?

In many cases, yes. We can provide detailed renderings, technical drawings, and finish samples during the planning phase. If you’re working with one of our regional partners or visiting our facility, we can also arrange in-person demonstrations or showroom visits.

  9. What industry standards are related to 24/7 chairs?

There’s no official “24/7” chair certification, but two ISO standards provide a solid foundation for ergonomic seating in mission-critical environments. ISO 9241-5 outlines criteria for circulation, posture, spinal support, and breathability, and ISO 11064-4 defines posture requirements for task-specific operator seating.

These ISO standards are often confused with ANSI/BIFMA standards, which focus on general-purpose and occasional-use furniture. Standards like X5.1 and X5.11 for office and large-occupant chairs, or X5.4, X5.41, X6.4, and X6.5 for lounge and home office seating, are not intended for continuous multi-operator use. In contrast, more rigorous testing protocols, such as FNEW‑83‑269E and FED-STD-834A, are better aligned with the performance demands of 24/7 environments.

At Tresco, we partner with manufacturers like Concept Seating and Iron Horse to offer chairs specifically engineered and tested for intensive-use applications, ensuring durability, ergonomic performance, and long-term operator comfort.
