Every NEXUS configuration is built around a different way of working. Here’s what each one is suited for.
Straight (Linear) Consoles
The simplest footprint, and the one that scales most predictably. Straight consoles line up cleanly in rows, which keeps seat height, viewing distance, and reach consistent from one station to the next. That consistency is key for rooms with many similar seats: security operations centers, dispatch floors, and any multi-operator environment where personnel need to move between stations without relearning the layout each time. It’s the kind of layout consistency ISO 11064 calls out directly for multi-site or repeat-deployment operations, where matching workstation layouts can support personnel transfer and shorten the time it takes someone to get comfortable at a new station.
Curved Consoles
A curved worksurface keeps every monitor at roughly the same viewing distance and angle from the operator, instead of pushing the outer screens into a sharper angle than the center ones. For a single operator working a wide monitor bank (a camera wall in a security operation, a SCADA overview in a utility control room), that consistency cuts down on how much twisting or leaning it takes to bring an edge screen into focus. It’s a direct application of ISO 11064 guidance on display arrangement and operator posture, which specifically addresses avoiding constant twisting when a workstation spans a wide field of view.
L-Shaped Consoles
An L-shaped console pairs a primary worksurface with a secondary return: a dedicated zone for reference material, a second equipment bank, or documentation that doesn’t need to sit inside the main sightline. It fits any role with a clear primary task plus a secondary one that shouldn’t compete for the same visual space. A wastewater treatment operator working a primary process view while keeping compliance reporting within reach is a good example. This kind of zoning, a distinct reference or documentation area kept separate from the primary monitoring zone, reflects the task-zone planning approach ISO 11064 lays out for shared workstations.
Split Worksurface Consoles
Splits the console worksurface into distinct zones. Built for situations where two functions need physical and visual separation between them. Common in dispatch and communications setups where consoles are packed with equipment for the task at hand. Zoning the worksurface this way keeps each function’s displays, controls, and cable runs within its own defined space instead of crowding one continuous surface.
That separation also makes it easier to service or reconfigure one zone, adding equipment, running new cable, adjusting a control layout, without disturbing the other. It’s the same task-zone thinking ISO 11064 applies to shared workstations generally, here focused on equipment density and serviceability rather than a documentation split.
Bracket Consoles
A back run wrapped by two side arms, enclosing the operator on three sides instead of one. The back run carries the primary monitoring surface, while the two side arms bring secondary equipment or additional displays within reach on either side, without turning the body away from the main view. That’s the layout ISO 11064 addresses directly when it discusses wraparound arrangements chosen for how operators coordinate with equipment and, where more than one person works the station, with each other.
Cockpit Consoles
A center run flanked by two angled wings, a shallower, faceted wrap rather than a squared-off one. It keeps peripheral monitors or controls angled toward the operator instead of running flat alongside them, closer to a curved console’s effect but built from flat angled segments instead of a continuous arc. That’s the same posture and line-of-sight reasoning ISO 11064 applies to curved layouts, just achieved here through angled wings rather than a smooth curve.
Complex – Custom Consoles
Not every control room fits a standard shape, and this category covers the ones that don’t: configurations built around a specific task analysis rather than a repeatable footprint. It’s what you get when an operator’s tasks, room constraints, or equipment list don’t map cleanly onto straight, curved, L-shaped, split, or bracket layouts, and the console gets built around the job instead of the job being fit into a standard console. That’s the same starting point ISO 11064 itself uses for control room design, task analysis and operational goals first, layout decisions second.
