As wall mounted display systems have become more common in recent years, maintaining clear operator sight lines over the top of monitors in an open-concept control room has become more important.

There is a number of versions of the recessed monitor shelves for desktop consoles; they may be fixed in height or they may be fitted with height-adjustable monitor shelves. Different control rooms have different needs; 24/7 facilities with numerous shifts most often have a greater need for height adjustability to suit the different operators who will be using the consoles.

A number of task lighting operations exist for this type of console as well, depending on such considerations as the operators’ expected tasks and the type of ambient lighting to be found in the room.
